Branding Work is Therapy

When you own and run a small business, your business is an extension of you. As such, it's impossible to do branding work without doing self-work. Branding at its most basic is about clarifying who you are, who you serve, and how to communicate effectively with your community. And when small businesses have poor brand identity, it's literally an identity crisis for the business owner: they don't know who they are!

Some of my clients would be surprised to know that in addition to being a filmmaker, I have my Master's Degree in Psychology and a credential as a counselor. When people ask me, "Why didn't you ever do anything with your psychology degree", I smile and respond, "Actually, I use it every day!" And that's the truth. One of the things I most love about working with small business owners is having the opportunity to dig into who they are.

And when we get their brand identity on track, their eyes light up, not simply because they understand better how to communicate their brand through the stories I help them tell, but because they have a better idea of who they are when they look in the mirror.
